About Women reservation seats in public transportation - See m

Mar 22, 2015-Even as the government has made it mandatory to keep at least four seats reserved for women, elderly and people with disabilities (PWDs) in public transportation , the provision largely remains unimplemented. The inability to ensure the implementation of the provision has made commuting in public vehicles unsafe and uncomfortable for girls, women and PWDs.

Sumitra Sharma, chairperson of NGO Federation of Nepal, Rupandehi, had to travel urgently to Butwal from the Capital on a night bus recently. Upon reaching the bus counter, she asked the ticket seller to give her a seat reserved for women as it was night time and that she will be travelling alone. Although she had made the request politely, the staff at the counter berated her for no reason by using foul language and telling her to buy a bus of her own to avail such services.
